On Tuesday, the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles shut down its gender-affirming care center after more than 30 years.
The center shut its door in response to the Trump administration's threat to cut federal funding.
Maria Do with the L.A. LGBT Center told KNX News’ Karen Adams that the closure will affect 2,000 young people.
“It's quite detrimental to be losing this care,” Do said. “We know that there are already higher rates of depression and suicidality among LGBTQ+ youth and among transgender and gender diverse youth. Gender affirming care can help them address feelings of gender dysphoria and decrease their chances of suicidal ideation.”

Do said in the center is working to connect patients who have lost their care with providers who are still providing gender care, and that the center will be “moving forward with additional legislative advocacy in support of four pro-trans bills.”
