After serving the Chinatown community for 18 years, Yue Wa Market will close for good on Tuesday.
Owner Amy Tran told KNX News’ Karen Adams that she has to close because of rising rent and very little foot traffic, which she says began after the pandemic and got worse after the ICE raids began.
“I’m upset,” she said. “ I don't want to [close], but no choice because everything is too high for us.”
She also said thefts have been a problem. Two years ago, she was attacked by a burglar who stole her purse. On a GoFundMe for his mother and the shop, Tran’s son, Derek, said that their home has been broken into three times and that his sister was assaulted by the burglars in June.

“We have also made several police reports,” the post read. “ We have spent a lot of money to install window reinforcements and new security systems with cameras. Still, the criminals have not stopped nor have they been caught.”
As of Monday afternoon, the GoFundMe has raised $112,796.
Tran said she’s unsure of what’s next for her, but that she’ll be addressing some chronic health concerns.
