LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A reported shooting by a California Highway Patrol officer resulted in a major traffic stoppage on the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles Thursday morning.
CHP Officer Jose Barrios told City News Service that the 2:50 a.m. shooting happened as a man standing next to a stalled car allegedly opened fire on CHP officers who stopped to investigate the situation on the Southbound 405 near the Skirball Drive exit.

Barrios said it's unknown how many shots were fired from either party, but at least one bullet did hit the suspect. He was taken in unknown condition to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood. Neither CHP officer was injured.
The shooting closed both the north and southbound side of the freeway, causing major traffic backup in both directions for several hours of the morning commute.
Officials reopened the northbound lanes at around 5 a.m. Two southbound lanes were repopened to traffic around 9 a.m. and the freeway was finally restored to full service byb 1 p.m., CHP said.
At this point, CHP told CNS that it's unclear what led to the Red Ford Mustang being stalled on the side of the freeway and how the man standing next to it when officers approached is connected.
Anyone with information is asked to contact CHP.
