A worldwide pandemic, Stay at Home orders and social distancing and no large gatherings during the holiday season in LA County.

Even with all these factors taken into account, nothing is stopping some people from getting Christmas tamales.

At Tamales Liliana's on Cesar Chavez Avenue, the line stretches down the block and around the corner with social distancing of course.

Alex Romero has been working here for three years and thinks that one reason for the surge this year is that a lot of smaller restaurants are closed so people come to the known locations to get two to five dozen tamales or more.

When it comes to popularity, here is the top five.

"Well you got red, green, cheese, the sweet tamale and they also like the elote tamale," Romero says.

The restaurant may sell 30,000 tamales by 6 p.m. tonight and they will open at 2 a.m. Christmas Day and stay open until 6 p.m. selling another 30,000 tamales to longtime customers and neighbors.
