LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A winter storm system approaching Southern California is forecasted to bring rain, high winds, cold temperatures, and even snow to some parts of the region.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for mountain communities starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday through noon on Wednesday.
With the agency expecting snow at communities sitting 2,000 feet or higher, major roadways could be impacted by snow and ice. Likely affected roads include the 5 Freeway from Grapevine to Castaic, and Highways 14 and 138 in Antelope Valley and Soledad Canyon.
Wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour were forecasted across the Antelope Valley and nearby foothill areas on Monday, including the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale, with a wind advisory in place from 8 a.m. through 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The NWS has forecasted between 0.5 and .5 inches of rain.
Cold temperatures are expected to subside towards the end of the week, making way for a warm weekend.
