The Artesia Bridge, a vital link in the city of Compton, has been restored after being closed for years, and officials believe it will ease public safety concerns and could revive the local economy.

The bridge, which connects to the 91 freeway, the port of Long Beach, and other neighboring cities, has been shut down since 2020 after it was damaged in a fire.

Compton Mayor Emma Sharif told KNX News' Nataly Tavidian that the nearby town center was losing around $150,000-$400,000 a week because of the closure.

"I'm just excited to know that this bridge is open and that the businesses will be ok. This bridge really plays a pivotal part in what happens there," Mayor Sharif said.

Four years and $12 million later, the bridge will officially be open to the public starting Thursday.
