Los Angeles (KNX) - The once bold black and white mural on a wall outside Unincorporated Coffee Roasters that faces Lincoln Avenue has been defaced with purple scribblings and patches of green.
LISTEN:
A few community members told KNX News reporter Margaret Carrero the imagery struck them as violent. One resident said, "What I saw was five black men stabbing and killing each other," and another saying, "Those daggers needed to be covered up. That violence needed to be covered up."
While it seemed to be a shared feeling that the mural needs to go, there was equal agreement that vandalism was not the way to do it; one of the coffee shop's patrons said no one has the right to deface a wall in Altadena and another went as far to say she feels bad for the owners.
It seems the general hope is that the unfortunate vandalism will prompt the coffee shop to replace the mural with something more uplifting and positive.
The L.A. Sheriff's Department declined to comment on the incident
