The COVID-19 death toll in L.A. County is now approaching 10,700 and the number of infections across the county since the outbreak started, has passed the hard to believe total of 800,000.
Meanwhile, the number of people hospitalized with the virus in L.A. County has hit yet another new high of more than 7,600 -- putting even more strain on hospitals that were already being pushed to their limits.
Scott Brickner, who is a longtime nurse at Cedars-Sinai, tells CBS-2 the huge caseload and the deaths of so many patients has taken a big emotional toll on him and his fellow healthcare workers.
One hundred and 38 more deaths and nearly 16,000 new infections were confirmed in L.A. County in the Health Department's latest daily report.
In Orange County, the number of people hospitalized with the virus now stands at just below 2,100-- which is actually a very slight drop from before. But hospitals there are also having serious problems taking care of all the COVID victims coming in.
