LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Crenshaw High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday following a "large disturbance" on campus, authorities said. Modified dismissal was placed in effect as Los Angeles School Police said the lockdown would continue for the remainder of the day.
The school at 5010 11th Ave. was initially placed on lockdown "due to a large disturbance involving 100+ students on the campus," according to a statement from the Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD), which reported late Wednesday morning that officers had "restored order" on the campus.
No one was hurt in the incident, which began at about 9:45 a.m., CBS2 reported.
In a statement to the news station, the Los Angeles Unified School District suggested that the situation might have been related to an incident that happened at the school last week, when two adults "entered the campus without authorization," prompting a lockdown.
"Reportedly, the adults, on their own, intended to address a conflict between two students. As this incident is an ongoing police investigation, and to safeguard the confidentiality of our students, we cannot comment further on this matter," the statement said.
"The school followed district protocol, and in an abundance of preventative caution, several added safety protections for students and the school community are being implemented. All students and staff are safe."
