Dozens of search and rescue crews have been scouring a river in the San Gabriel mountains to look for a hiker who went missing on Saturday.
KNX News’ Emily Valdez reported that sheriff’s department helicopters are flying over the river, while searchers are walking along it. The missing hiker is a 59-year-old woman, who is a traveling nurse and was out in the mountains with some friends.
About half a mile from the parking area, the trail they were on required the friends to cross through a river, which is full because of the melting snow. The missing woman was swept down the river. She was able to get her footing and almost got out of the river before the current took her back down.
There has been no sign of the missing woman. There will not be an overnight search because it’s too dangerous.
