Former Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley will appeal her termination in front of the L.A. City Council on Tuesday.
Last month, Mayor Karen Bass removed Crowley as Fire Chief.
“We know that 1,000 firefighters that could have been on duty on the morning the fires broke out were instead sent home on Chief Crowley’s watch,” a statement by Bass read.
Bass added that Crowley refused to do an "after-action report on the fires” when asked to by the president of the Fire Commission.
“State law requires after-action-report that is conducted or led by the fire commission, but it's an independent investigation,” Bass told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener.
In order to be reinstated, Crowley needs 10 votes from city council members. Fieger told L.A.’s Morning News it’s likely Crowley will get 5 votes.
“Well, by my projection or assessment, if you will, based on, you know, people I talked to and stuff I hear that it would not be unlikely for the 15-member Los Angeles City Council for the chief to get 5 votes,” he said. “Maybe 4 votes, but 5 seems likely. But remember there were four council members who stood with the mayor in solidarity when the mayor said, ‘Hey, I'm removing the chief.’ So I'm going to count those 4 as minds that won't change. They could, but I don't think they will. “
As she walked into City Hall, Crowley told KNX News' Craig Fiegener she's grateful for the love and support she's received.
"And I'm here to support the community," she said. "I'm here to support our firefighters, to make sure that we can build the fire department out to where we need to go from now and into the future, and it's my opportunity to speak on those matters and that's why I'm here today."
L.A. City Council will meet at 10 a.m.
