CULVER CITY (CNS) - A suspect tried to rob a parishioner at Grace Lutheran Church at gunpoint, but he failed to obtain any property and was taken into custody, police said Monday.
Officers responded around 1:25 p.m. Sunday to the 4400 block of Overland Avenue between Farragut Drive and Franklin Avenue on a report of an armed robbery, according to the Culver City Police Department.
Police said a male suspect brandished a handgun at the victim and tried to steal the person's cell phone and wallet.
However, the suspect was unsuccessful in obtaining the property and fled the scene in a gray sedan, police said.
The suspect was later located and taken into custody without incident, police said. His name was not released.
Police said the suspect was booked at the Culver City Police Department. It was unclear if the person was still in custody pending a decision on charges by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Anyone with information regarding the attempted robbery was urged to contact Culver City Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Edward Baskaron at 310-253-6316 or the Watch Commander at 310-253-6202.
