Earlier this month, Los Angeles City Council members Eunisses Hernandez, Nithya Raman, and Hugo Soto-Martinez introduced a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

As KNX News' Nataly Tavidian reports from the steps of City Hall, religious and community groups who are pro-Palestinian gathered Friday to push the council to accept this resolution.

Basha Jamil with the Council on American Islamic Relations said, "This is a movement with broad support from people of all kinds of backgrounds, including our Jewish brothers and sisters who have also not been spared Zionist violence when they call for an end to Israel's genocide in Gaza."

The motion is currently in committee.

If the L.A. city council adopts this resolution, it will join major cities like Seattle, Oakland, and San Francisco. Other Southern California cities that have signed similar resolutions include Pomona, Montebello, and Santa Ana.
