Los Angeles County deputies and two boys were credited with saving the life of a toddler who fell into a lake at a park in Cerritos.

The incident happened at Don Knabe Park on Mar. 29 at 8 p.m. According to Captain Dru Strong, a father was attending to a child in a stroller he had been pushing while his toddler was riding a bike ahead of him.

“When he looked back up, he realized he couldn’t find his child, and as he searched around the park for his child, he didn’t realize he had fallen into the lake,” he said.

But two boys who were nearby had seen the toddler fall into the lake and called 911.

“[The boys] were waving us down with flashlights, and that's how we were able to get with the child,” Deputy Javier Alvarez told KNX News’ Karen Adams.

Deputy Erick Mutum says the toddler showed no signs of life when they pulled him out.

“Completely lifeless, no pulse,” he said. “The child was completely gone.”

Deputy Alvarez began performing CPR and pushed water out of the toddler’s lungs. Minutes later, the toddler was revived.

He was taken to the hospital and has since recovered.
