TUJUNGA, Calif. (KNX) — A german shepherd's fall down a 200-foot cliff in the Delta Flats area of Big Tujunga Canyon ended with an emotional video Wednesday, taken by the search and rescue workers who worked to rescue “Onyx.”

It was an emotional Tuesday night for the dog and his family, after search and rescue crews told them Onyx would have to spend the night stuck on the ledge before a helicopter could come in Wednesday to rescue him.

Mike Leum, a search and rescue team member with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, captured the emotional video of Onyx’s yowls as he reunited with his family. He explained what led up to the dog being stranded overnight.

“The owner was hiking with two dogs late [Tuesday] when Onyx fell down a 200’ cliff, getting stuck halfway,” Leum wrote.

“Onyx spent the night stuck on a ledge, but family members were close by all night trying to reassure him.”

His family never left, but they all had to wait until morning for the Montrose Search and Rescue Team and Air Rescue 5 with LASD to come in and helicopter the dog off the cliff.
