A donkey fell into a well on a Meadowbrook property Friday, leaving the helpless animal stuck, prompting Riverside County Fire Department crews to mount a large animal rescue operation.
The trapped donkey was reported just before 3 p.m. Friday at 25910 El Toro Road, nearly a mile south of Lindell Road, in a remote area comprised mostly of scattered properties, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency stated that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and discovered the donkey in the 20-foot well, without any means of getting out.
It was unclear whether the well had been abandoned or was still in use. There was water in it, according to officials at the scene.
Firefighters were not equipped for the operation and requested assistance from the nonprofit Riverside Emergency Animal Rescue System, REARS, and other groups accustomed to handling large animal rescues.
As of 4:20 p.m., the operation was still underway. The condition of the donkey could not immediately be confirmed.
It was also unknown whether the animal was wild or domesticated.
