The city of Downey’s mayor, Mario Trujillo, said the uniforms at a local sports bar are inappropriate and that they don’t meet the city’s standards.
The sports bar, Ojos Locos, has been fined $4,000 for the uniform that consists of t-shirts and skorts. They’re appealing to the city. Trujillo spoke to KCAL News about this problem.
“Male or female, it’s just not necessary to wear that type of uniform,” he said.
According to the city’s dress code, food handlers can’t show their midriffs, any portion of their chest that is three inches below the collarbone, and any part of their leg that is three inches below their butt.
A spokesperson for the cantina said the uniform is similar to what's worn by waitresses at other sports bars. They also said it’s not more revealing than the typical cheerleader uniforms. One customer said he’s not offended.

“I don't see the problem, and if they don't like it and people don't want to be in, I mean, don't come to the place,” he said.
The bar’s spokesperson said their uniforms are legal and appropriate for the restaurant's theme.
