The Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center (WWCC) in Huntington Beach needs help caring for dozens of baby birds.

The center is now tending to 41 eggs, nestlings, and hatchlings, all songbirds displaced by the ongoing cleanup of the Eaton and Palisades fires.

"We have to work and be strong together because we are stronger together," Debbie McGuire with WWCC told KNX News' Karen Adams. "We all can cooperate and help each other, and that's what we're trying to do."

She said this is the largest influx of little songbirds the center has ever had, and they will be keeping them safe for quite a while.

"Depending on the species, anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks after they've hatched," McGuire said. "Then we have to acclimate them and make sure they can eat on their own before we can release them back into the wild."

She says they need specialized volunteers and money to care for the birds. Anyone interested in helping can donate to the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center's website.
