More evacuation orders were lifted on the outskirts of the deadly Eaton Fire burn area near Altadena and Pasadena Thursday, with containment of the blaze increasing to 55% and Santa Ana winds finally backing down.
As of Thursday, the Eaton Fire had burned 14,117 acres.
The break in the winds was expected to be a major boon for the firefighting effort, with no more Santa Ana gusts expected until early next week.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office on Thursday reported 17 deaths tied to the Eaton Fire, an increase of one from Wednesday.
Sheriff Robert Luna said the sheriff's department has 31 active missing-person cases -- 24 in the Eaton Fire area and seven others in the Malibu area near the Palisades Fire.
The fire has also burned 14,117 acres, according to CalFire.
While mandatory evacuation orders are still in place in the Eaton Fire area, evacuation orders were lifted Tuesday afternoon from south of Canyon Crest Rd. and west of Lincoln Ave. in the Altadena area, according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
The fire, which started Jan. 7 at 6:18 p.m. on Altadena Dr. and Midwick Dr., left 16 people dead and destroyed more than 7,000 structures.
