The stench continues at the Hyperion wastewater plant. The issue goes back to July 2021, when a catastrophic spill occurred.
KNX News' Nataly Tavidian reports residents in nearby neighborhoods say the smell is an unwelcome on-again-off-again situation.
While the City of L.A. has been working with Hyperion for years, El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles says there is a problem with leadership at the plant and sent a letter to Mayor Bass asking her to make changes.

"Just in the last four weeks, we've had seven odor-related notices of violations from the air quality management district. Just this past weekend, there were 101 complaints of odor just Saturday and Sunday alone," said Boyles.
Mayor Boyles says the letter Mayor Bass's office should have been expecting. He says if the City of L.A. doesn't do something about Hyperion management, they may move forward with a lawsuit, which the City of El Segundo has already approved.
