A brush fire that broke out near Lytle Creek and Duncan roads in San Bernardino County Wednesday afternoon has already scorched approximately 250 acres with zero percent containment.

The blaze, being called the South Fire, began at about 1:30 p.m. in the Fontana area and continues moving east of Sierra Avenue and north along Lytle Creek Road, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

All ramps to the 15 Freeway near Sierra Avenue are closed, Caltrans announced as evacuations are taking place, and urge drivers to use the 210 Freeway or take the 10 Freeway to the 215 Freeway.

Evacuations have been ordered west of Sierra Avenue, south of the Lytle Creek Ranger station along Lytle Creek Road, north of the 15 Freeway, and east of Duncan Canyon to the foothills.

All areas north of the ranger station on Lytle Creek Road are under a shelter-in-place order, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Areas north of Glen Helen, east of Sierra Avenue and Lytle Creek Road, and west of the 15 Freeway are under an evacuation warning, the sheriff’s department said.

An evacuation center has been set up at the Jesse Turner Center located at 15556 Summit Avenue in Fontana.

A large animal shelter is open at the San Bernardino County Devore Animal Shelter located at 19777 Shelter Way in San Bernardino.

Over 100 firefighters and several aircraft are helping battle the flames. Authorities say dozens of homes are threatened by the fire. At least five homes and multiple RVs were spotted burning, according to CBSLA.
