The F-35 fighter jet left Fort Worth in Texas on Tuesday and was headed to Edwards Air Force Base in the Antelope Valley. It crashed at an airfield near the Albuquerque Sunport in New Mexico.

The pilot was the only person on board the jet and escaped the crash. The pilot was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, the Albuquerque fire department reported.
