Los Angeles Unified School District officials are investigating allegations that a Fairfax High School student created and shared inappropriate photos of a classmate, circulating them in the school community.

Although district officials didn’t confirm that artificial intelligence was used to generate the pictures, officials said it appeared to be the latest misuse of technology by students.

“The Los Angeles Unified School District is investigating allegations of inappropriate photos being created and disseminated within the Fairfax High School community. These allegations are taken seriously, do not reflect the values of the Los Angeles Unified community and will result in appropriate disciplinary action if warranted. Based on the school’s preliminary investigation, the images were allegedly created and shared on a third-party messaging app unaffiliated with Los Angeles Unified. Los Angeles Unified remains steadfast in providing training on the ethical use of technology – including A.I. – and is committed to enhancing education around digital citizenship, privacy and safety for all in our school communities," an LAUSD spokesperson said.

It comes a week after Laguna Beach High School said students allegedly used AI to create deep fakes and that they put real faces on computer-generated nude bodies.

A month prior, five middle schoolers in Beverly Hills were expelled for creating similar pictures.
