Two evacuation alerts were mistakenly sent out in parts of Los Angeles County. One of the messages was sent out Thursday afternoon and the other was sent out early Friday morning.

Kevin McGowan, the director Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, told KNX News 97.1 FM that the agency is looking into it.
“This was not a new alert generated by the Office of Emergency Management and the EOC,” he said. “We are actively working with FEMA's Integrated Public and Alert Warning System. That is the national-level organization that manages the wireless emergency alert along with the entire alert system. The alert that was sent out…we are trying to establish where there is a system issue.”
He added the errors aren’t from “a human action at this point.”
“This system is in a networked system and we will definitely be reviewing this,” he said. “What is going on and where this error occurred, and wherever the error occurred is, the chain of responsibility will identify where that error has occurred and that's where we will work to ensure that it doesn't happen again.”
McGown urged residents who receive alerts to go to https://lacounty.gov/emergency/ to verify any alerts sent out.
