It’s graduation season for students in the Los Angeles Unified School District, but recent immigration raids have some families fearful of attending the ceremonies.

School police patrolled the perimeter of the campus at Arleta High School as seniors received their diplomas on Tuesday, keeping an eye out for federal agents. Still, many told KNX News’ Karen Adams that the possibility of a raid kept some immigrant families at home.

“They hear things, you know, misinformation, sometimes they're just scared of what's going on or what might happen, so they're, you know, taking precautions,” one graduation attendee said.

But some pushed past the fear to make the best of the day.

“You just gotta look forward and just pray that everything, you know, turns out right,” another attendee said. “You can't allow what’s going on to ruin the day.”

In addition to school police patrols, the LAUSD minimized outdoor lines to enter the graduation and end-of year-ceremonies, and families are being allowed to remain inside in case ICE agents show up.
