Local organizations and agencies that provide meals to the hungry, including seniors, say people will suffer under President Donald Trump’s federal funding freeze.

WIC, the Los Angeles Unified School District, Project Angel Food, Food Access L.A., and the All People’s Community Center joined Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove for a news conference Friday to highlight the detrimental effects of losing their federal funding.

“The federal funding freeze is going to kill people,” Kamlager-Dove said. “There are so many folks living hand to mouth who are incredibly dependent on all of these programs that help everyone regardless of your political affiliation, regardless of your gender, your race, your religion, your ethnicity.:

Samantha Watson with Sunrise Organic Farms said what's happening comes down to a singular issue.

“Whether you are someone who depends on this funding or not, the discussion here is really food security,” she told KNX News’ Karen Adams. “And if we’re not going to care about it for the few, we risk it even being available for the many.”

Kamlager-Dove called for a complete rescinding of the funding freeze, which was temporarily blocked by a federal judge mere minutes before it was set to take effect on Tuesday. A second judge ordered a temporary pause on the effort on Friday.
