BANNING (CNS) - A 51-year-old man suspected of going to a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Hemet with a shotgun in his car was behind bars Tuesday.
Kali Trammel of Riverside was arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on Monday on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of controlled substances.
Trammel is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
The suspect parked at the DMV office on State Street at about 11:30 a.m. Monday to conduct unspecified business, according to the California Highway Patrol.

"Officers engaged the individual, who was subsequently identified, searched and found possessing the shotgun," Montez said, adding that the investigation was turned over to the CHP because the alleged offenses occurred on state property.
It was unclear why Trammel allegedly was driving around with the 12- gauge pump action, which photographs showed had double grips and empty shell holders on the butt of the rifle.
"The CHP would like to commend the DMV staff for their keen observations and quick action, as well as the Hemet Police Department for their assistance and quick response," Montez said.
Background information on Trammel was not immediately available.
