The blaze was reported at 3 a.m. in the 10100 block of Fallsvale Lane, just east of Tyler Street, according to the Riverside Fire Department.
Battalion Chief Scott Richmond said that three engine crews and a truck company, numbering nearly 20 personnel, were sent to the location and encountered smoke and flames in the laundry space of the single-story residence.
"The first arriving unit described ... fire extension to the attic," Richmond said.
All three occupants had safely evacuated before crews reached the residence.
Firefighters completely knocked down the blaze in a half-hour, discovering that "a faulty dryer was at fault" for igniting the fire, according to the battalion chief.
The property was declared uninhabitable pending repairs. The occupants did not require assistance from Red Cross in finding temporary alternate lodgings.
