A brush fire that erupted Thursday on the west end of Jurupa Valley adjacent to Interstate 15 scorched 36 acres before it was stopped.
The non-injury "Landon Fire" was reported at 5:30 a.m. Thursday at the dead end of the 11000 block of Landon Drive, just east of northbound I-15, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Officials said multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a moderate rate amid Santa Ana winds.
The California Highway Patrol temporarily shut down the northbound side of I-15 between Limonite Avenue and Cantu-Galleano Ranch Road as a safety precaution. No evacuations were required.
The partial freeway closure lasted less than an hour.
The fire's forward rate of spread was stopped within two hours, but the flames continued to expand in an open field.
The blaze was declared completely under control shortly before 1 p.m., according to reports from the scene.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
