"We have one large screen at the front of the venue and we have an FM station that the sound is going to be sent to," says Nicholas Tell, whose father is the former mayor of Manhattan Beach.

He says it’s very historic and very cool to be the first ones to do this. He co-founded the Florana International Film Festival with his college friend Ruarirdh Kerr and his brother.

"[It's] even greater in our first year that we've received so many submissions that we could call it an international film festival. They've been pouring in from all over from places like Iran to Italy to Japan," Kerr says.

There is a total of 29 short films.

They will all be shown on both days. For those who can’t make it in person, there is an online streaming option. It’s also a charity event with proceeds benefitting the Roundhouse Aquarium Teaching Center and Heal the Bay.
