An injured mountain lion cub found sleeping in the middle of a busy road in Castaic overnight was captured.

The six-month-old, a female, was lying in the middle of Hillcrest Parkway overnight. When a first responder showed up, she ran off into the neighborhood.

Biologists from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife captured the female cub. Marcella, whose front yard was where the cub was captured, told KNX News’ Emily Valdez she watched it all unfold.

“When I looked through the peephole, I saw the cub, and then right behind it I saw these green nets and these people running, and I said, ‘Oh, they caught her, but she's in my yard! I gotta watch this,’” she recalled. “It took a while for them to get the baby down into the basket, and I'm just happy they caught her.”

Cindy Astro, who lives across the street, said she’ll keep an eye out for the cub’s parents.

“I've seen two adults, in recent times, so  I think it's pretty obvious, and they do have a path,” she said.

Officials say the cub is headed to a veterinarian to get checked out. She will be treated, rehabilitated, and then hopefully reunited with her mother.
