A dog in Fontana lost its leg after a porch pirate left a gate open.

David Lopez told KNX News’ Karen Adams that on December 3rd, a porch pirate left the gate open after swiping Christmas gifts at his home and took off in what looks like a white SUV.

Lopez’s two dogs, Sparky and Blazer, left the yard. While Blazer returned quickly, Lopez found Sparky two days later at a neighbor’s yard.

“I see his head pop out and it was just in disbelief, like, ‘What the? I've been looking for you!’” Lopez recalled. “And I throw my hands up, at a loss of words, and he limps towards me, and I immediately thought, ‘OK, awesome. He's limping. No big deal, you know? He's not shredded into 1,000 pieces. As soon as he gets to me and he flips upside down and he shows me where he's hurt.”

The vet believes a car hit Sparky. Sparky’s leg was amputated.

Lopez said he doesn’t care about the stolen gifts.

“The gifts, those are all replaceable,” he said. “My dog's leg is not a replaceable item there.I can't go to Amazon and get him a new leg, so that's like the big bummer.”

A GoFundMe was created for Sparky. You can check it out here.
