A French tourist died in Death Valley last week after his car got stuck in 116-degree heat.
According to officials, on Aug. 17, Pierre Michel Formosa, 68, and his traveling companion’s vehicle got stuck in the mud near Queen of Sheba Mine Rd. The men then walked toward Badwater Rd. to get help.
Formosa only made it about 1.3 miles when he couldn’t continue; however, his travel companion kept walking and was able to get help from a passing driver.
The incident was reported to rangers.
Following a search-and-rescue operation, Formosa was found dead.
His cause of death is unknown at this time.
