FRESNO, Calif. (KNX) – Deputies in Fresno said they arrested a repeat child abuse suspect again.
Anthony Escobedo, who is already facing 15 years for multiple charges including child molestation and rape, was arrested for a third time on Jan. 11, according to ABC 30.
Deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said evidence from a woman, who reported that she had been abused as a child, led to Escobedo’s arrest.
He was previously arrested in September for the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, but he posted bail. Deputies said they began investigating him after receiving reports he was posting child sex abuse content on his social media.
Deputies also went on to say that Escobedo has a long history of arrests related to sex crimes, including indecent exposure and forcible rape.
Escobedo was a Jehovah’s Witness. A spokesperson for the Jehovah’s Witness national organization told ABC 30 that police called them five times from 2009 to 2016 regarding Escobedo. Escobedo was expelled from the church in 2016.
Authorities believe there are more victims.
"Our investigation led us to believe there was additional information in the church documents in more or less their personnel files that they keep on parishioners,"Lt. Brandon Pursell of the Fresno County Sheriff's Office told the news station.
Escobedo had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
