Fullerton Police Chief John Radus pushed back on what he says is misinformation about an incident on January 22.
In the video posted on the department’s YouTube channel on Monday, Chief Radus said that officers responded to a call from a resident at 6:39 a.m. in the 1500 block of S Highland Ave., who reported that a man with a gun jumped a fence and was running around an apartment complex.
“When we receive a report of an armed suspect, we will respond every time. That is a public safety issue,” Radus said. “While on scene, Fullerton police officers maintained perimeter positions while federal agents searched for their subject. Once federal agencies had sufficient resources to safely continue their operation. Our officers disengaged.”
Radus also maintained that while federal agents searched the complex, officers did not “open or cut any gates” to help the agents get access.
“When our officers first arrived and were met by federal agents, witnesses have stated that our officers were seen shaking hands with the federal agents,” he added. “I can only imagine that that's probably true because it's customary to be polite and introduce oneself upon meeting new people.”
