LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Authorities are searching for a man suspected in more than a dozen bank robberies and attempted bank robberies in Orange and Los Angeles counties, authorities said Thursday.
The FBI has given the suspect the moniker, “Green Gaiter Bandit,” because he’s been captured on camera wearing a green face and neck covering in many of the bank surveillance photos. He has also worn gaiters or a mask in other colors or designs, according to an FBI news release.
The Green Gaiter Bandit is wanted in at least 14 robberies and attempted robberies since October, including on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the FBI said.
The Green Gaiter Bandit was described by the FBI as white, between 50 and 60 years old, about six feet tall, with a medium to heavy build and gray hair.
In some of the bank robberies, the suspect was wearing a tan jacket and a variation of workwear-style clothing, authorities said.
During the robberies, the suspect typically approaches a bank teller and either passes a note or makes a verbal demand, or both, according to the FBI.
Authorities added the “Green Gaiter Bandit” verbally demands cash or “loose bills” and then flees on foot after receiving the money.
