Janise Quiñones, the woman in charge of LADWP during the Palisades disaster, is leaving.

Mayor Karen Bass’ office says Quinoñes is leaving to take a power grid modernization job in Puerto Rico.

Bass hired Quiñones in May 2024. When Quiñones was first hired, it was revealed she would be earning $750,000 a year. When asked by KNX News’ Craig Fiegener what she plans to do with a salary like that, she answered, “I will work every day to make sure the city of L.A. is proud of the work we're doing at the department.”

But Quiñones is accused of allowing the 117-million-gallon Santa Ynez reservoir to go empty during the Palisades disaster. Some people blamed it for fire hydrants running dry during the Palisades firefight. L.A. had to hire a security detail to protect Quinoñes from intense backlash.
