Turkey Day is almost here, and you’ve planned ahead to make sure everything goes smoothly…

But what if the top of your salt shaker falls off and you accidentally dump a whole quarter-cup of salt into the gravy and it dissolves before you can spoon it out and Thanksgiving is ruined and everyone hates you? What then? How will you ever recover?

Don’t panic, anxious chefs – Matt Miller, the owner of Kitchen Lingo Books in Long Beach, has a simple fix for this and all your other holiday woes.

“A correction that people used to use is you just throw a potato in there,” he told KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian. “When you throw in a potato, it's going to absorb the salt, or you counterbalance it with acid.”

Kitchen Lingo is chock full of books on how to prepare for your party, what to do with leftovers, and how to replicate different types of meat with vegan substitutes like jackfruit and mushrooms.

“There's a whole section dedicated to entertaining, and this is going to teach you how to do every kind of buffet, every kind of party, every kind of holiday cuisine,” Miller said. “Party hosting tips, flow, like where to put the bar.”

So, where does the bar go? That’s a matter of opinion. Miller believes it should be set up in the back of the room, but he says some books recommend putting it on the opposite side of the room from the buffet table to force your guests to mingle.
