LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A high surf advisory issued Tuesday will continue to impact coastlines and beaches through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Waves of up to 13 feet are possible along the state's central coast, with waves between six and 9 feet expected along the Ventura County coast. In Los Angeles County, NWS expects between five and eight-foot waves.

With the surf advisory comes risks of rip currents and drowning. If you do head to the beach, NWS officials said your best chance at safety is to check in with lifeguards when you get there.

"Always a good idea to talk to a lifeguard," NWS Meteorologist Miguel Miller said.

"Many times the lifeguards have already identified where the rip currents are and put flags out and are telling people what and where to avoid."

The high surf advisory expires at 9 p.m. Wednesday.
