A homeless camp was cleared out in East Hollywood on Thursday morning.
Officials with Mayor Karen Bass’ office told KNX News 97.1 FM that all of the people in the camp agreed to go to interim housing, and that some people who happened to show up at the cleanup also agreed to move “inside.”
“I think we've been able to house over 20 now today alone from this encampment,” Anneta Kidane, Senior Director of Inside Safe, told KNX News’ Jon Baird. “So really excited for the individuals going inside, but also excited for the restoration of this neighborhood.”
Keith Johnson lives in Hollywood and told Baird he was glad to see the camp cleared away.
“I think it's great, but I hope these people really go inside,” he said. “The one thing about Inside safe, we don't really know how long they stay. If they do stay. whether it's a day, a week. I mean, it's an opportunity for recovery, which is terrific.”
But Susan Gosman, who lives across the street, said those who lived at didn’t really have a choice.

It's because we live in a city that doesn't care about people that don't have homes and jobs and food and places to sleep at night,” she told Baird. “Those are the people who are forced to sleep on the streets, to sleep in the cold, to sleep in the rain.”
Baird reported that the camp had been there for several years.
