Huge bear seen wandering Burbank neighborhood

Bear in Burbank neighborhood

A huge bear that’s been seen roaming around a Burbank neighborhood has put residents on edge.

The bear has been spotted in the Elmwood Ave. neighborhood.

Narbeh and Anna Kamarazi told KNX News’ Karen Adams the bear has been around for a week, showing up every night or early in the morning.

“He always stops by the trash cans, and then he takes the road over here, [and] goes to our backyard,” Anna said.

Narbeh said he’s worried about running into the bear with the couple’s 6-month-old baby nearby.

“What's going to do?  What I'm going to do with my baby and face the big bear?” he asked.

Wildlife officials say the bear, which is tagged, is simply looking for food and that they don't plan to intervene unless it becomes aggressive. Steve Gonzalez with the State Fish and Wildlife said there are steps residents can take to keep the bear away.

“Bring in the grill, bring in the dog food, the cat food, the bird feeders,” he said. “Make sure your trash is secured, maybe put it in the garage. Those are all things that we can do that would help to give the message to this bear that there's no easy meal here.”

Burbank Animal Control rolled through the neighborhood on Tuesday to hand out bear awareness letters advising people not to approach a bear, and if confronted, don't run. Officials also say if you are attacked, fight back.
