Remains of an unidentified woman were found Wednesday in a plastic bag in Encino, police said.

Officers were sent to the area of Ventura Boulevard and Rubio Way at about 6:15 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

KNX News' Margaret Carrero spoke to Efren Gutierrez, an LAPD detective. He said that a unhoused man going through the dumpster looking for recyclables made the discovery and called police.

"If there are any persons out there with missing family members, missing loved ones or co workers to reach out to the Los Angeles Police Department and to report them missing," Gutierrez said.

He said this will help police identify the remains. Gutierrez said they have been reviewing footage in the case.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call 877-LAPD-247.
