Huntington Beach officials are pushing to defy California's sanctuary laws and support President Donald Trump's immigration plans, including mass deportations.
Mayor Pat Burns told L.A.’s Morning News he wants the city to be a "Non-Sanctuary City" so local police can work with ICE on immigration enforcement.
“Well, if we have somebody in custody that's illegal to some extent…that if for some reason he needs to be released…and ICE is requesting that he be detained until they get the chance to pick him up, I think we should cooperate with their efforts to do their job,” he said.
He added that he’s in favor of the deportation of criminals.
“I don't think we should be housing, supporting the way some of these California laws are forming,” he said. “That we give them phones, we give them healthcare, we give them housing, we give them food, we completely support them. And some of these are righteous criminals that aren't supposed to be here, and they're creating crime against our citizens. Well, why would we support that?”

Burns said he expects that City Council will vote on the issue during Tuesday night’s meeting.
Last month, Los Angeles City Council passed a proposed sanctuary city law.
