With federal funding cuts looming for UCLA medical research, Hyundai Hope on Wheels donated $400,000 to fund cancer research at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital in Westwood.
Sean Evans, the general manager at Keyes Hyundai in Van Nuys, told KNX News’ Emily Valdez said it’s all about doing everything they can to help.
“Whether it's $25 here, $5,000 there, crumbs put crumbs together, we make crumb cake, right?” he said. “So I think the bigger goal and awareness is for everybody to do something.”
Dr. Steven Jonas, a pediatric oncologist, explained why this funding is critical.
“It's critical for seeing efforts in our lab and labs that we collaborate with UCLA to help us develop new technologies that will hopefully help impact a child's clinical course as they're dealing with their cancer,” he said.
He added that some of their research has been impacted by the cuts, but that they need to push forward.

Around 800 research grants at UCLA were suspended, the Daily Bruin reported.
