After a water main broke on Sunset Blvd and Holloway Dr, flooding made its way to West Hollywood residents’ buildings and vehicles.

The main burst early Thursday morning, around 3 a.m., leaving most residents to wake up to the flooding.

40-year resident Ken Allen was one of those residents who thought the sounds of the water were his neighbor’s air conditioner.

“I looked out my front window, and the street had turned into a river,” said Allen. “ I'm wet up to my waist.”

He said he experienced another water break similar to this 15 years ago, but this one had more intense water.

Joey, another resident, couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

“I didn't fully understand the scope of how big this was,” he said.

Underground parking structures and apartments were significantly damaged, with some residents unable to see their cars.

“Yes, I lost my car, I think completely,” Emil, another resident, said. “You cannot even see my car under the water; I’m shocked.”

She took KNX News’ Jon Baird on a tour of her building, where she said she had to call her vacationing neighbor to let her know her apartment was flooded.

“She's in Mexico right now, so that's why I called her with what's going on,” Emil said. “She let me know that her place is destroyed.

LADWP is working to pump water out of affected areas, where Joey declared it has become the “West Hollywood River.”
