Incentives don't appear to be doing much to boost demand for COVID-19 shots in LA County.
The state's doing $50,000 Fridays and offering a grand prize of $1.5 million dollars to encourage people to get jabbed before the economy fully reopens on Tuesday.
And there are other prizes being offered locally including Dodgers, Clippers, Rams and Chargers season tickets. But first-dose appointments keep dropping.
"While it is possible for us to have a successful reopening, even with vaccination numbers slowing down, it would greatly increase our confidence and our ability to keep cases low if we saw greater vaccine uptake across the county," says Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer.
Ferrer points out while COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths remain low overall, the rates are highest among Black and Latino residents, who also have the lowest vaccination rates.
