Indoor services resumed Sunday at a number of churches around Southern California in the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling, striking down a state ban.

The ruling was won by Harvest Rock Church in Pasadena and South Bay Pentecostal in Chula Vista.

South Bay Sunday School teacher Timothy Guyer tells CBS8 in San Diego it was great to be allowed back.

“Church has been a little bit different,” Guyers says “But church was never about the building, church’s about the community.”

The Supreme Court said that the state could still ban singing but that did not stop people at South Bay yesterday.

Pastor Art Hodges praised the ruling from the Supreme Court.

“This is a giant step forward in affirming that Americans should never be forced to have to choose between obeying God or their government," Hodges told CBS8.

The ruling also allows the state to cap indoor attendance at 25% percent capacity. LA County health officials have said that even though indoor church services are allowed, it encourages houses of worship to continue to hold them outdoors or virtually.
