SOUTH EL MONTE (KNX) - An infant was found dead in Whittier Narrows Park in South El Monte this morning.
At about 8 a.m., a man doing community service was emptying a trash can and found the body of a newborn baby lying in the grass with the placenta still attached, KNX News’ Pete Demetriou reports. Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives responded to the scene.
No information was available on the infant’s gender or identity.
The body was found in the park’s Special Events Area B, an open area about 80 to 90 yards from the Pomona Freeway. Because there are no cameras in this section of the park, it may be difficult to determine who was responsible.
Detectives say they're checking local hospitals, because the woman who gave birth to the baby may be losing blood and in need of medical attention.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to lacrimestoppers.org.
