California's Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara says homeowners need to be proactive in preparing for Southern California's upcoming peak fire season.
In addition to creating a 100-foot brush clearance between property and brush, he's encouraging people to replace roof vents. Modern vents have the ability to keep burning embers from entering a home's attic, and igniting a fire.
"We have homeowner insurance companies offering discounts to homeowners," says Lara, to people who take measures to mitigate risk.
