An Irvine dog trainer has been found guilty of killing 11 dogs by leaving them in a hot van and then cremating their bodies.

Kwong (Tony) Chun Sit, who operated Happy K9 Academy and charged people upwards of $4,000 to board their dogs, and his girlfriend, Tingfeng Liu, left 11 dogs in small crates inside a hot van, where they died of heatstroke in June 2025, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors say that after having the dogs cremated to try to cover up the crime, Sit texted the dogs' owners that their pets passed away peacefully in their sleep and that the bodies were "lovingly cremated" out of respect.

Sit now faces almost 14 years in prison, while Liu faces up to four years in custody.
